I am a self-taught draughtsman and painter, raised in a creative family where making things yourself and using what was available was the starting point. I learned that perseverance can lead to beautiful work.
In Utrecht I trained as a pharmacist and worked for years with fine chemicals and precision equipment. Part of those skills, combined with endless pencil drawing during my student years, shaped what I now capture on canvas and paper. I have drawn since childhood, but only started working with oil paint much later, in 2020. I soon discovered that portraits were my preference.
Design fascinates me. Industrial design was my second choice of study. Beautiful lines, harmonious colours and the fall of light are important. Every painting is a search for beauty in portraits, the human body, worn fabrics and everyday objects, with dedication down to the smallest detail.
